Vascular network remodeling and the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis and arteriogenesis) plays an important role in the pathophysiology of ischemic cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, and cancer, which are the most common causes of mortality in western society. Our goal is to generate novel insights in the regulation of cardio vascular function that can translate into personalized therapeutic strategies in patients suffering from CVD. We focus on bio-sensing of hemodynamic forces in the contex of collateral growth. We develop hemodynamics centered extracorporal devices (Antepuls) allowing non-invasive, personalized, patient centered vascular hemodynamic training to augment perfusion and alleviate ischemic burden. We furthermore develop novel drug delivery systems based on viral systems and smart molecules for targeting the diseased cardiovascular system.
