Beside the Research Topics, showing the basic orientations of the scientific activities within KITHealthTech, Focus Fields are dynamic structures giving the FOCUS to highly relevant scientific challenges. AI driven computing architectures, body worn sensors and actuators and smart implants are leading to an increasing number of new devices that communicate with our body and other biological tissues with the promise of, for example, improving athletic performance, combating pain, monitoring bio-functions, treating depression, monitoring disease progression and enable wellbeing and even helping to speed up the process of learning new skills. Many of these devices are based on or are connected to neuroscience and biosensors. Due to recent developments, they are an integral part of the wearable tech agenda as well as the humanoid robotics strategy.

Bioelectronics and Bioelectronic Medicine

AI and the digital patient innovation in bioelectronics is one of the most important emerging fields  of Health Technologies and will have a great impact on our future health care concepts. Bioelectronics research and bioelectronic medicine are not based on a new concept as we already live with pacemakers, defibrillators, deep brain stimulators for several decades, however future bioelectronics will be revolutionized by novel material concepts, miniaturization, 3D additive manufacturing on all length scales. Intelligent  wearables for ubiquitous  and individualized Health Care rely on soft bioelectronics, sensor systems with sensitive detectors, novel biocompatible materials and also theranostic entities.
